How does Virtual Therapy Work?

At Serenity Place, we use SimplePractice to make virtual therapy secure, simple, and accessible—no matter where you are. Whether you're using a computer, tablet, or smartphone, connecting with your therapist is just a few clicks away.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to get started:

Step 1: Book Your Appointment

Schedule your session by calling (301)690-8008 or e-mailing appointment@serenityplace.biz.

Step 2: Check Your Email for the Link

24 hours before your session, SimplePractice will send you a reminder email that includes a unique video session link. You’ll also get another reminder about 10 minutes before your session starts.

Make sure to:

  • Bookmark or save the link for easy access.

  • Check your spam/junk folder if you don’t see it.

Step 3: Join the Session

About 5–10 minutes before your scheduled time:

  1. Download the Telehealth by SimplePractice App if you are using your mobile device. If you are not using a mobile device, you do NOT need to download the Telehealth by SimplePractice App; simply click on the link sent to you and join the session. 

  2. Click the secure video link in the email or text reminder.

  3. Please make sure to allow access to your camera and microphone.

  4. A new browser window will open. (You don't need to download anything!)

  5. Click “Join Video Call.” That’s it—you’re in!

Tip: Use Google Chrome or Firefox for the best experience on desktop.

Step 4: Find a Quiet, Comfortable Space

To get the most out of your session:

  • Choose a private and quiet area

  • Use headphones for better sound and added privacy

  • Have a stable internet connection

Step 5: Enjoy a Secure, HIPAA-Compliant Session

Your session is fully encrypted and secure. SimplePractice meets HIPAA, GDPR, and other privacy standards, so you can feel safe and confident sharing openly with your therapist.
